This week’s topic of interest is one about ‘The size –zero Botticellis’, where an artist had manipulated some famous masterpieces of curvaceous nude women which were originally created by Botticielli and Titian. The artist’s intentions were to bring the women’s natural appearance in line with today’s conceptions of female beauty. What fascinates me most about this topic is the fact that people are still deeply drawn to the idea that women have to be super skinny and flawless, in order for them to fit in or be approved by society. I personally do not believe that anyone has the rights to insinuate what counts as beauty or what size women have to be just to be considered attractive. According to The Telegraph, ‘Miss Giordano used Photoshop to slim down famous buxom nudes and bring them into line with 21st century concepts of what women should ideally look like.’ I find it appalling how the media continues to push this unrealistic idea across that women have to look perfect and that size zero is the ultimate size. I remember when curves were once considered as one of the most flattering qualities on a woman and telling a woman ‘My, your bum looks big in those jeans’ was once regarded as a form of praise. However, now we’ve been led to believe that being a size 12 means that you’re fat and out of shape, whereas being a size zero means you’re attractive and possibly living a more contented life than someone who’s perhaps larger than you.
Everyday we are being bombarded by images of super skinny models, which we view in magazines, newspapers, TV, billboards and so forth. We are constantly exposed to images of people who look as though they have not eaten for years, and we’re expected to accept it as the norm. The size zero issue has now moved from celebrities and models to some of the most famous art works out there, the masterpieces had been altered and made to resemble catwalk super models with larger breasts, flat stomachs and extremely petite waist lines. Size zero has become a weapon which the media and designers use to pressurise young women and teenage girls into permanently starving themselves, just to reach this ‘ideal size’ and to feel accepted by today’s anti fat society. Celebrities like Kate Moss and Angelina Jolie have quite a lot to answer to, young girls look up to these women and are sacrificing so much just to look like these skinny celebrities. It’s a real shame that no matter how much we seem to stress about this issue, it will always exist and until someone goes out of the way to put a stop to it, young girls will continue to suffer and perhaps even die.
Please feel free to add your views on this topic guys, I would like to hear what you think about this.

Hey you fashion lovers! Just want to fill you in, on one of the biggest sale that is taking part this year at Debenhams. The store is offering a massive discount on most of its items; including a whopping 50% off some of its designer wear. Why not kick start this spring with a new look that will certainly get heads turning and leave people talking for days. If you’re a student like myself and you don’t have the money to be splashing on expensive clothes, then Debenhams is the place to visit this spring… Be fashion crazy but spend wisely.

The topic that has caught my attention this week is the one about, celebrities getting paid to sit in the front row of calkwalk shows. This to me sounds absolutely absurd, I mean how desperate must these designers be for them to go as far as bribing celebrities just to attend their shows. Well here’s how the story goes. Debates had risen after French designer Nicole Farhi decided to spill the beans on the fact that designers have been paying celebrities to sit in the front row of their fashion shows. The designer also named a few celebrities who have been paid in the past to attend fashion shows, and amongst those named were Rihanna, Katy Perry, Will.i.am and many more. However, it’s nice to see that there are still some loyal designers out there- thanks to Nicole. According to the designer celebrities are often paid around £60,000 just to attend fashion shows and to sit in the front row. How naive of me to believe that they were just big fashion fans like myself- utterly shameful I must say. What’s worse is that this disgraceful act has been taking part for some time and no one has dared to open their mouths until now. The irony to this is that, when we do see pictures of some celebrities at fashion shows; they often look like they’ve been forced to attend the show against their will. This drives me to question whether designers are only interested in creating media hype and buzz rather than exhibiting their talent to those who truly appreciate fashion. In fact, what we might just need is more designers like Nicole Farhi; who has made it very clear that she does not wish to be part of this outrageous act; as she explained in The Daily Mail (Femail), “It is so unprofessional, I have never paid a celebrity and I will never do it. It’s stupid”.

Has fashion become all about publicity and media attention, does anyone care about fashion anymore? I don’t believe that anyone would want to purchase a fashion magazine which has more pictures of celebrities sitting in row A than pictures of current designer collections; honestly, how ridiculous would that be. In spite of the bribing, there are still some stars who continue to appear at their favourite fashion shows from time to time; which highlights the clear fact that there might still be some true fans of fashion out there. Nevertheless, it’s about time that someone addressed this issue; how long was this going to continue for. I personally believe that designers just need to be a little more patient when it comes to selecting celebrities to attend their shows, they need to start searching deeper for genuine fashion loving celebrities and keep their money in their pockets.
This was just my opinion on the issue, however I would love to know what you guys think about it. Should designers continue to pay celebs to attend fashion shows or do you agree with me that fashion shows should only be for those who love fashion. Tell me what you think.

Stunning shoes alert! These sexy Adidas Y-3 Oriah ankle boots, by Yohji Yamamoto are a must have for this spring. And who said you can’t mix fashion with sports? Because they were wrong. These wedged heels have been created for both fashion and comfort, so no more complaining ladies. Celebrities like Willow Smith have also been spotted wearing the shoes, while shopping in New York.
